Shoegaze fans will have a hard time finding a better value.Īre Heavy Mother for real? Their album cover shows the band members in wigs/hats, surrounded by bongs, booze, and other trashy ephemera suggests a group of stoner buddies on guys’ getaway weekend. A disappointment for sure but at least the digital option is cheap – just three Euros, or $3.21 USD, over at Bandcamp. My only complaint is with format – if you want a physical copy of this album your only option at this time is cassette. It’s all super-pleasing stuff that’s as refreshing to your ears as a cup of ice water on a hot summer’s day, especially personal favorite “The Garden,” which features a monstrously good guitar earworm.

They’re still a hard-hitting band – no soft dream-pop tunes here, folks – but by dialing down the feedback they create room for more melodic elements like chiming 12-string guitars and those oft-ambiguous harmonies that are buried in the mix in true shoegaze fashion. This mini-LP – though at 8 songs, and thirty-three minutes you could easily call it an LP and nobody would bat an eye – is a great throwback to the early days of shoegaze, though the band doesn’t particularly engage in any of what I like to call “noise terrorism” like MBV, Ride, The Telescopes.etc. Healees are an international four-piece put together in Paris by American expats Bryan Quinn and Hillevi Robertsson back in the pre-Trump/Covid paradise of 2015.
